Begin your journey with three days of exploration at Mount Bisoke National Park, where you will trek to the volcanic summit and witness its stunning crater lake. Then, spend five days at the scenic Twin Lakes of Burera and Buhondo, where you will immerse yourself in cultural encounters, water-based activities, and serene nature.

Day 1:
Kigali - Volcanoes National Park

Your adventure begins with your arrival at Kigali International Airport, where you will be warmly welcomed by your guide. After a brief orientation, embark on a scenic drive to Volcanoes National Park, home to the majestic Mount Bisoke. Upon arrival, check in at Mountain Gorilla View Lodge, a cozy eco-lodge offering stunning views of the Virunga Mountains. Spend the rest of the afternoon relaxing and acclimatizing to the altitude before enjoying a hearty dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2:
Mount Bisoke Trekking

After an early breakfast at Mountain Gorilla View Lodge, head to the park headquarters for a briefing before beginning your Mount Bisoke trek. Accompanied by experienced guides, hike through dense bamboo forests and alpine meadows as you ascend the volcanic slopes. Upon reaching the summit, marvel at the breathtaking crater lake, often shrouded in mist. After spending time soaking in the panoramic views, descend and return to your lodge for a well-deserved rest and dinner.

Day 3:
Nature Walks and Cultural Encounters

Following breakfast, enjoy a leisurely nature walk in the lower slopes of Mount Bisoke, where you can spot birds and small mammals while learning about the region’s flora. In the afternoon, engage in a cultural tour of the Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village, where you’ll experience traditional Rwandan music, dance, and local crafts. Return to Mountain Gorilla View Lodge for your final night in the Volcanoes National Park region.

Day 4:
Transfer to the Twin Lakes of Burera and Buhondo

After breakfast, check out and depart for the picturesque Twin Lakes of Burera and Buhondo, located a short drive away. Upon arrival, check in at Virunga Lodge, an elegant eco-lodge perched on a hilltop, offering sweeping views of both lakes and the surrounding hills. Spend the afternoon relaxing on your private veranda or taking a gentle walk along the lakeshore. Enjoy a peaceful evening with a delicious dinner at the lodge.

Day 5:
Canoeing at Twin Lakes

Start the day with breakfast overlooking the lakes before setting out on a canoeing excursion across Lake Burera. Paddle through the serene waters, visiting small islands and watching local fishermen at work. In the afternoon, embark on a community tour, where you can visit local homes, schools, and cooperatives to gain insight into traditional ways of life. Return to Virunga Lodge in time to enjoy a lakeside sunset and dinner.

Day 6:
Bird Watching and Scenic Hikes

After breakfast at Virunga Lodge, spend the morning on a guided bird-watching tour, exploring the rich biodiversity around the lakes. Look out for kingfishers, herons, and other bird species unique to the region. In the afternoon, hike the trails along Lake Buhondo, taking in dramatic views of the Virunga Volcanoes and tranquil waters below. Return to the lodge for another relaxing evening.

Return to Kigali – Departure

After breakfast, check out from Virunga Lodge and transfer back to Kigali. Depending on your flight schedule, you may opt for a short city tour, including a visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial, before heading to Kigali International Airport for your departure, marking the end of your unforgettable 8-day Rwandan safari adventure.
