This 6-days safari offers an unforgettable adventure through Rwanda’s rich biodiversity, combining gorilla trekking, golden monkey encounters, and chimpanzee tracking. The journey begins in Volcanoes National Park, home to the majestic mountain gorillas, before heading to Nyungwe Forest National Park, where visitors will experience one of Africa’s oldest rainforests, primate encounters, and the iconic Canopy Walk.

Day 1:
Arrival and Exploration of Volcanoes National Park

Upon your arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be welcomed by your guide who will take you on a scenic drive to Volcanoes National Park, located in the Virunga Mountains. The journey offers you a glimpse of Rwanda’s stunning landscapes, including rolling hills and lush green valleys. After checking into your accommodation, spend the rest of the day relaxing and preparing for the adventure ahead. In the evening, enjoy a delicious dinner at your lodge and get a briefing on the next day’s gorilla trekking experience.

Day 2:
Gorilla Trekking Experience

Today, embark on the highlight of your adventure: gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park. After an early breakfast, you’ll drive to the park headquarters for a briefing on the trekking rules and safety procedures. From there, your guide will lead you to the trailhead where you’ll begin your trek through the dense forest, ascending and descending the mountains to find the majestic mountain gorillas. Once you find the gorillas, you’ll have one hour to observe them in their natural habitat, witnessing their family dynamics, interactions, and incredible strength. This unforgettable experience will leave you in awe of these endangered creatures. After the trek, return to your lodge for lunch and a relaxing afternoon, soaking in the breathtaking surroundings of Volcanoes National Park.

Day 3:
Iby'iwacu Cultural Village Visit

After a hearty breakfast, embark on another exciting activity in Volcanoes National Park: golden monkey trekking. These playful and inquisitive primates live in the park’s bamboo forests and are a delight to observe. Golden monkeys are endemic to the region, and trekking to find them is a unique experience. In the afternoon, enjoy a visit to the Iby’iwacu Cultural Village, where you’ll immerse yourself in Rwandan culture. Learn about traditional Rwandan life, including music, dance, and the customs of local communities. This is a great opportunity to engage with Rwanda’s cultural heritage and experience the warmth and hospitality of the local people.

Day 4:
Nyungwe Forest National Park

Upon arrival at your lodge, take in the stunning views of the forest canopy and enjoy a peaceful afternoon. In the evening, relax at your lodge and enjoy a traditional Rwandan dinner while surrounded by the serene beauty of the forest.

Day 5:
Canopy Walk and Nature Exploration

Today, get ready for another thrilling primate encounter: chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe Forest. After an early breakfast, you’ll head to the park headquarters for a briefing before starting your trek to locate the chimpanzees. Nyungwe is home to a large population of chimpanzees, and trekking through the forest offers the opportunity to see them up close as they forage and interact. In the afternoon, experience the Canopy Walk, one of the park’s signature activities. This exhilarating walk takes you high above the forest floor, offering stunning aerial views of the ancient rainforest. The canopy walk is an unforgettable way to observe the unique flora and fauna of Nyungwe Forest from a completely different perspective.

Day 6:
Return to Kigali and Departure

After a final breakfast in Nyungwe, begin your journey back to Kigali. On the way, stop at various scenic points to admire the lush landscapes of Rwanda, known as the “Land of a Thousand Hills.” Depending on your flight time, you may have the opportunity to visit some local markets or the Kigali Genocide Memorial, which offers profound insights into Rwanda’s history and its journey to healing and reconciliation. You’ll then be transferred to Kigali International Airport for your departure flight, marking the end of your incredible 6-day safari in Rwanda.
